Parliamentary staffer may have played ‘significant role’ in alleged payments to MEPs to promote propaganda on Voice of Europe website

Belgian police have searched the European parliament office and Brussels home of a parliamentary staffer who is believed to have played “a significant role” in a Russian interference operation, the national prosecutor has said.

French authorities also carried out a search of the employee’s European parliament office in Strasbourg at the request of the Belgian examining magistrate overseeing the inquiry into corruption and Russian interference.

This has once again prompted the international court of justice to make urgent decisions, to initiate provisional measures to achieve a humanitarian ceasefire. For this humanitarian ceasefire is what we as Europeans, the German federal government [are calling for].

We will do everything we can to achieve this, however difficult the situation is at the moment. That also means thinking again about how humanitarian aid and the worsening situation in Gaza can come in. We now have the situation where Rafah is closed again.

Health update comes as country reels from assassination attempt and contends with political fallout

The Slovakian prime minister, Robert Fico, is in a stable condition and communicating after last week’s assassination attempt, doctors have said, as the country continues to grapple with the political fallout from the shooting.

On Monday, the FD Roosevelt hospital in Banská Bystrica said Fico’s conditiond was “stable”. “He is clinically improving, communicating and his inflammatory markers are gradually decreasing,” it said, adding: “The prime minister remains in our care.”
