How to Watch the Euro 2024 Matches in the US

17 June 2024 at 17:30

The most anticipated international European tournament kicked off Friday, June 14, in Germany. Euro 2024 will run until July 14, and if you know where to look, you can catch all of the 51 matches (not "games") right here in the U.S.

How to watch Euro 2024 matches

Most of the games will be played on the FOX networks and Fox Sport 1 (FS1), and five matches will be played on Fubo. You have only one option if you want to catch all of the games with a single subscription: Fubo Pro. The subscription is $79.99 per month and gets you access to all of the relevant Fox channels. If you only want to watch some games, you can get a seven-day free trial.

If you want some other streaming subscriptions that include FOX and FS1 (but won't include the Fubo-only games), DirecTV Stream, Sling Blue, Vix Premium, and YouTube TV + Sports add-on all get you both FOX channels to catch the Euro matches.

DirecTV Stream is $79.99 per month. The YouTube TV Base Plan is $57.99 per month for the first three months. Sling Blue will run you $40 per month, and you can stream on three screens simultaneously. Vix Premium with ads starts at $4.99 per month and can also stream on three screens simultaneously; just be aware the matches will be narrated in Spanish.

If you're considering getting one of these subscriptions, remember that Copa America will be starting June 20 and running until July 14. Copa America will also be streamed on FOX and FS1 so you'll get to enjoy both tournaments.

How to Sign Up for Prime Day 'Invite-Only' Deals

17 June 2024 at 14:00

Invite-Only deals started last year during Prime Day in an effort to give more people an equal chance to take advantage of the best deals Amazon has to offer. The program must've worked well for Amazon because they repeated it during Prime Big Deal Days later in October. While we don't have the official dates for Prime Day yet, we know it'll be sometime in mid-July. Knowing how to sign up for the Invite-Only deals will give you a fighting chance at taking advantage of these deals.

How to sign up for Prime Day Invite-Only deals

As Amazon explains, you must be a Prime Member to sign up for the Invite-Only deals. What you're doing is essentially requesting an invitation to the deal, which will come by email. Here are the steps from Amazon:

  1. Find an "Invite-Only Prime Deal" that you want to purchase. You can find the deals on the Deals page.

  2. Navigate to the product detail page.

  3. Select "Request Invite." If you are not a Prime member, sign up for Prime to be able to request an invite.

  4. You will receive an email notification confirming you requested an invite. The confirmation will be sent to the email that is on your Amazon account. If you don't have an email on your account, add one by navigating to Your Account > Login > Security.

Keep in mind that just because you requested an invitation doesn't mean you'll receive one. If you are selected, you'll receive a push notification and email during the sale. If you're not selected, Amazon will also let you know you didn't get one. You can only buy one of the products that you were invited for, but you can request as many different product invitations as you want. The invitation will last as long as Prime Day lasts (two days).

As you can see from our past coverage of Prime Day Invite-Only deals, they are impressive. In October, Amazon had a 43-inch 4K Smart Fire TV for $99. You'll likely see similar deals this year. Some other tips to shop smartly for Prime Day are to use Alexa to remind you about deals and use deal alerts to receive notifications related to your recent Amazon searches and recently viewed items.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: The Yaber K2S Projector

17 June 2024 at 09:30

When it comes to projectors, you can spend anywhere from the low hundreds to the high thousands, depending on portability, battery life, resolution, brightness, and overall use experience. A "budget" projector will usually run you about $600, and right now, one such projectorโ€”the Yaber K2Sโ€”is $369.95 (originally $599.95) after a $230 on-page coupon. It has some higher-tier features, though, and is well below its listing price, making it my favorite Amazon deal of the day.

I've had the Yaber K2S projector for some months now, and I've been surprised by how easy it is to set up and use. It has an auto-focus feature that finds the best focus depending on the distance to the screen. The operating system is Android TV, which feels like using a Roku TV. You have access to the Android app store with over 9,000 apps, including Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Disney+, HBO Max, and others. You can also easily tap any NFC device, like your phone, to stream media into the projector.

The K2S has a 1,920 by 1,080 resolution with 4K output support for eligible media. The brightness is not the best, with 800 ANSI, so it's better suited for nighttime or low-light rooms. Unless you plan on using it for a big crowd outdoors, the two 10W JBL speakers are sufficient for most activities. The image contrast of 2000:1 is impressiveโ€”I can see the shadows and dark images in scenes without troubleโ€”but the image does lean a bit bluer than normal, so if you're a stickler for accurate color, beware.

For $369.95, this is a powerful projector with great features. You won't find other projectors at this price with its resolution and extra features.

Woot Is Selling Refurbished Fire TVs Starting at $60

14 June 2024 at 14:00

You don't have to wait until Prime Day to get great deals on Amazon products. Today is Woot's 20th birthday, and as a subsidiary of Amazon, they get access to many Amazon products that Amazon wants to liquidate. Right now, Woot has a big sale on many of these Amazon products, including security cameras, tablets, smart speakers, smart TVs, and other devices that run until June 30.

To sweeten the deal, most of these products are eligible for an extra 20% off ($20 maximum discount) if theyโ€™re purchased during Woot's 20th birthday (before midnight Friday, June 14). If you're looking for smart TVs, the Fire TVs are particularly cheap. You can get a basic 32-inch starting at $59.99 up to a 4K UHD 55-inch for $269.99.

Keep in mind that refurbished products might come with signs of wear, but they were all serviced and given the thumbs-up to work properly.ย Woot only ships to the 48 contiguous states in the U.S. If you have Amazon Prime, you get free shipping; otherwise, itโ€™ll be $6 to ship.ย

The Amazon Fire TV 2-Series is the most basic TV and only goes up to 720p resolution, but it is still a smart TV with essentially a Fire Stick in it. And like any Fire TV, you can install Kodi to stream anything you can imagine for free. The 32-inch version is $59.99, and the 40-inch is $109.99.

The Amazon Fire TV 4-Series is a big improvement with 4K UHD resolution for not much more money than the 40-inch 2-Series. The 50-inch 4-Series is $189.99 and the 55-inch is $224.99. You'll get 3 HDMI inputs and an HDMI eARC input to connect a soundbar to it.

If you're looking for the best TV in the bunch, the Amazon Fire TV Omni Series is $269.99 for the 55-inch version. It has a more modern design than the 4-Series, with a thinner bezel, a more metallic design over plastic, and a better contrast ratio, which makes games and movies look better. It also has better brightness and a faster response time. For $45 more than the 4-Series, it's worth the upgrade. But if you won't be playing games and don't think you'll notice these differences, you might as well save yourself the money.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: This LG UltraWide Monitor

14 June 2024 at 09:00

Ultrawide monitors can help you save space and (sometimes) money compared to having two separate monitors. The 29-inch LG UltraWide monitor can do both for the price of a single budget monitor. For a limited time, you can get this LG monitor for $166.99 (originally $249.99), the cheapest price it has been on Amazon according to price-checking tools.

This LG UltraWide monitor is considered a budget monitor, even at its full $249.99 listing price. This means that you won't get 4K resolution, smart features, or gaming monitor specs. What you do get is an IPS panel with a 2,560 by 1,080 resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and HDR10. While it isn't designed for gaming, it does have AMD Freesync and a 100 Hz refresh rate, so it can handle games better than your regular budget monitor.

The monitor is mountable in case you don't want to use the stand that it comes with. In terms of inputs, it has a display port, USB-C display port (which lets you connect any device to it with a single cable), HDMI, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The design is decent, and the white looks clean (that's what the "W" in the 29WQ600-W model number stands for). Keep in mind this monitor only tilts back and forth, with no height adjustment, swivel or pivot.

One of this monitor's nice features is that it can detect when a new input is plugged in or used and automatically switch to it. It also comes with integrated speakers, which isn't very common for speakers around this price point. An IPS panel means you'll get great colors, a wider viewing angle, and better visibility in sunny environments. However, the contrast ratio won't be as good as a VA panel and is susceptible to the classic backlight bleed that all IPS panels can get.

These Are the Best Last-Minute Father's Day Tech Deals at Amazon

13 June 2024 at 14:00

It's not too late to get that last-minute Father's Day gift yet, especially if you have Amazon Prime (you can get a 30-day trial if you don't), but you are cutting it close. Amazon is having a Father's Day sale with many of its Amazon-owned tech products going up to 55% off, including smart TVs, tablets, smart speakers, Kindle readers, security cameras, and other devices. Here are some of the best deals from the sale.

All of these products will arrive before Sunday if you order them today, with many offering overnight, same day, or one-day shipping for Prime Members.

An Amazon Fire TV for $89.99

You don't have to be a father to appreciate a new $89.99 (originally $199.99) smart TV. The Fire TV 2-Series is not a fancy TV by any means, but it's a smart TV with essentially a Fire Stick in it that lets you stream some free live channels. My favorite thing about Fire TVs is that you can install Kodi on them and essentially watch anything for free. At 32-inches, it's a smaller TV that goes up to only 720p resolution. If you're looking for a fancier TV that will still arrive by Sunday, consider the refurbished Amazon Fire TV Omni Series for $350.99 (originally $499.99).

The Kindle Scribe is $100 off

The Kindle Scribe 16 GB with the Basic Pen is $239.99 (originally $339.99), down to its lowest price after a $100 discount, according to price-checking tools. The Scribe is great for people who like to read on their Kindles but want to take notes on the same device. You can read our review here to learn more about the device.

The Echo Dot with a smart bulb

The 5th generation Echo Dot from 2022 is the classic Alexa smart speaker. It strikes a good balance in price and sound compared to the other devices, and at $29.99, I think it's the best value for your money in terms of Alexa smart speakers. This bundle comes with a free Sengled smart bulb. You can also get the device in other colors.

The Blink Outdoor 4 at its lowest price

The Blink Outdoor 4 is a great outdoor security camera, especially for those getting started on their home security journey. At $59.99 (originally $99.99), it is the lowest price it has been, but the savings increase the more cameras you bundle together. If your home is large and there are multiple points you want to keep an eye on, the bundles are a great way to get multiple cameras and save some money. You can learn more about the Blink Outdoor 4 in our review.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: Yeedi C12 PRO Plus

13 June 2024 at 08:30

The robot vacuum industry is fierce, with companies quickly releasing new robot vacuums that surpass the competition in specs and price. Today, you have the choice of selecting all kinds of alternatives to "classic" iRobot vacuums, which are quickly falling behind the competition. The C12 PRO Plus is Yeedi's latest vacuum, and it's a great value for your money, currently sitting at $349 (originally $599) after a $150 on-page coupon.

The Yeedi C12 PRO Plus has a combination of features that you won't find in any robot vacuum under $350: a self-emptying dust bin that can last up to seven weeks before needing to empty it; 8,000 pascals of suction power, which is impressive for its price; a mop pad that scrubs the floor 480 times per minute with a downward force that can get some dry stains off the floor; smart mapping of your home; ability to set schedules; boosted suction on carpet; anti-tangle technology on the roller; and an up to five-hour battery capacity.

A handy feature of this robot vacuum is that you don't need to buy dust bags for itโ€”you can empty out the debris very much like you would a stick vacuum (you press the release button and the debris drops from below). It's a simple, money-saving feature that makes you wonder why other companies don't do the same.

The vacuum's mop feature works well and is superior to the Roomba Combo j5+ Robot Vacuum and Mop I was previously using at home. The vacuuming also seems to pick up debris that my Roomba doesn't normally pick up. The setup with the app was painless and took about 10 minutes to complete. The mapping of my 1,300-square-foot home also took about 10 minutes, which is much faster than the Roomba.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: The M2 Mac Mini

12 June 2024 at 14:00

When you think of Apple computers, you probably imagine a MacBook (most people use their laptops as desktops, myself included), but there are still other options, even in 2024. The Mac Mini is a powerful and minimalistic desktop computer that will work well for most people (though you'll have to supply your own monitor, mouse, and keyboard).

Starting at $479 for the M2 chip Mac Mini, the machine is matching the lowest price it has ever hit on Amaon right now, according to price-checking tools.

The M2 Mac Mini desktop is available with an 8โ€‘core CPU and 10โ€‘core GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage. Not crazy specs by any means, but considering it is a 2023 Apple desktop for under $500, impressive enough. The M2 is still powerful in 2024, even with 8GB of RAM, and will have more than enough memory and power for most people. (If you plan to work with videos, audio, and demanding software, consider the M2 Pro with a 512GB SSD for $1,150 after the $49 on-page coupon. Otherwise, save your money.)

Speaking of money, keep in mind that you will need a couple of basic things to round out your desktop, including a monitor, keyboard, and mouse (none are included with the Mac Mini). I also think it's worth getting a hub, like this Satechi Mac Mini Hub, that fits perfectly under the machine, and an external SSD, like this SanDisk Extreme, to give yourself more storage.

I find Apple's mouse and keyboard options to be overpriced and underperforming. You can get a Cherry keyboard for less than $100, or any choose any of our sister site PCMag's picks best keyboards of 2024. The same goes for a mouse; the Logitech M750 is currently $32.99 and will work well. (Read more about your mouse options from PCMag here.)

When it comes to monitors, Apple's are actually great , if you can afford them. But if you're looking for a deal, this Dell 27 Monitor S2725H is $20 off and comes with a $75 Dell e-gift card. (See more monitor options from PCMag here.)

That Amazon 'Deal' Might Actually Be a Hidden Price Hike

11 June 2024 at 15:30

Many major retailers attempt to compete with Amazonโ€™s upcoming Prime Day (Walmart+ Week, for example) and of course, each one wants you to think their deals are the best of the bestโ€”but it's often a smoke screen. Amazon, in particular, has been caught in a lawsuit since last September by the Federal Trade Commission and 17 states, alleging it inflated prices on their products using an algorithm.

In other words, if you have a hunch that the price for a โ€œdealโ€ on Amazon was actually cheaper in the past, you may be right: One study from 2022 revealed questionable tactics deployed by Amazon to trick consumers into thinking they are getting a deal when, in reality, the savings are negligible, at bestโ€”and even higher than before, at worst.

The trick is called โ€œprice-increase and list-price synchronization.โ€ Basically, a seller disguises a price increase as a discount by increasing an itemโ€™s โ€œlist priceโ€ (the original price) and then slashing that list price to show you a โ€œsale priceโ€ that might even be higher than the original price.

Hereโ€™s how this might play out in practice: Say Amazon lists a television for $500. Then, one day, the โ€œList Priceโ€ becomes $600 with a slash through it. Amazon then bumps the TV to $550. A blissfully unaware buyer might be tricked into thinking theyโ€™re saving $50 when, in reality, theyโ€™re overpaying for the TV.

When I reached out to Amazon about the study, I received this response from a spokesperson: โ€œAmazon provides clear and accurate pricing information on our product pages. This study was conducted more than five years ago, and doesnโ€™t accurately represent the shopping experience today. We continually work to help customers make more informed purchase decisions and have since evolved how we describe pricing information.โ€

Take this 2020 Apple MacBook Air laptop, though. Back in October 2022, it was listed as $998 with a โ€œPrime Exclusive Dealโ€ where you are โ€œsaving 17%โ€ or $200 off from the $1,198 โ€œlist price.โ€ But when we look at the MacBookโ€™s price history on Camelcamelcamel, a price tracking page, hereโ€™s what we find:

Price history of the Apple 2020 MacBook Air Laptop M1 Chip in October 2022.
Screenshot from camelcamelcamel.com Credit: camelcamelcamel.com

Although it is discounted from its then-lowest price, the chart above shows the MacBookโ€™s list price was never the claimed $1,198. Later, the price of the laptop conveniently rose just before Amazonโ€™s Prime Early Access Sale on October 11, 2022, only to then be discounted again for the event. Itโ€™s still the cheapest price of the year at $998, but itโ€™s not as sweet of a deal as that new, higher โ€œlist priceโ€ would make it seem.

There is no official market value for any item since the free market sets the price of any good, so the practices by Amazon and others are not illegal. However, that doesnโ€™t mean you have to be fooled. To avoid falling into this trap, make sure to use price-tracking pages like Camelcamelcamel for Amazon or Honey for major online retailers on deals you feel seem suspicious. Look at their price history to make sure that โ€œdealโ€ is actually a deal.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 Gaming Monitor

11 June 2024 at 14:00

Samsung's Odyssey series has consistently been one of the industry's most sought-after and well-rated gaming monitors. Back in January, during CES, they announced three new monitors to the series, with the G8 and G6 being the first time Samsung added flat monitors to the series. They became available to the public just this month and are already seeing good deals. The flat-screen 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8 is now $1,299.99, and Amazon is offering a $300 Amazon gift card with it for a limited time.

The G80SD monitor comes with a few firsts for Samsung. As mentioned, it is the first time they have done a flat-screen on their Odyssey gaming monitor series. It is also the first time they offer a potential solution for OLED's worst enemy: screen burn-in. According to PC Mag, the monitor has a smart cooling system that controls brightness and diffuses heat to prevent overheating. In other words, the monitor will automatically adjust the brightness on static images to help prevent burn-in. It's too early to tell if this is a solution for burn-in, but it seems promising.

Another first for Samsung is the introduction of AI in the Odyssey series. The new monitors can use AI to upscale content to nearly 4K when using the Samsung Gaming Hub and Smart TV apps that come integrated with the monitor, a technology they've used in their TVs before.

The G80SD is a 4K OLED monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate, a Quantum dot (QD) panel that gives a brighter and more colorful experience than regular OLED panels, a 0.03ms response time, HDR10 support, and two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 port all with 4K capabilities at up to 240Hz.

If you're looking for the latest OLED gaming monitor that doubles as a TV to stream media in 4K without potentially worrying about burn-in, give the G80SD a try. The $300 gift card will hopefully help ease the burn on your wallet.

How to Speak With a Real Person at Amazon Customer Service

11 June 2024 at 08:00

Amazon is one of the biggest retailers in the world, and that can make it quite challenging to shove past the FAQs, user forums, and Reddit threads to actually talk to a human over the phone. As you probably already know from trying to contact someone on Amazon's "Contact Us" page, there is no direct number to call. That's by design. Luckily, there are other quicker ways to get a hold of someone who can listen to your specific issues, which may be helpful to keep in mind as Prime Day approaches.

Get a very fast callback from Amazon

Amazon doesn't like you calling them, but with a few steps, you can get Amazon to call you.

  • Visit Amazon's Contact Us page

  • Select Something Else

  • Select I need more help

  • Say "Request a phone call" from the customer service chat

  • Choose "Ok, I'll enter my phone number"

Screenshot of chatting with Amazon chat box.
Credit: Screenshot Daniel Oropeza

As you can see from the screenshot, it takes a couple of tries on the chat to get the machine to give you the option of getting a callback, but that's nothing a little persistence can't fix.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: MacBook Pro Laptop M3

10 June 2024 at 11:00

The new MacBook Pro M3 lineup is one of the best Apple laptops your money can buy right now, and all three of them are currently $300 off. But if you're looking for the best value for your money, get the MacBook Pro Laptop M3 Pro chip with the 11โ€‘core CPU and 14โ€‘core GPU. Currently, it is $1,699 (originally $1,999) on Amazon, the lowest price it has been since its release, according to price-tracking tools.

Out of the three M3 Pro MacBook Pro laptops, the 11โ€‘core CPU and 14โ€‘core GPU is the best-priced option. The weaker M3 chip MacBook Pro starts with an 8โ€‘core CPU and 10โ€‘core GPU, but more importantly, an 8 GB RAM that will be outdated pretty quickly, as tech writer Pranay Parab pointed out, above (it honestly already feels outdated). At the end of the day, you'd still be paying a premium price for an 8 GB RAM laptop, which should not be acceptable. For just $300 more, you can add 10 GB more and the M3 Pro chip with a more powerful CPU and GPU, as well as a more powerful battery with about 30 hours of juice (eight more than the M3 chip).

The M3 Pro 16.2-inch MacBook Pro is a more premium laptop, but it costs significantly more (about $550). Most people don't need that kind of power and speed (I also find it less portable with a 16.2-inch screen).

As PCMag points out in their "outstanding" review of the M3 Pro chip MacBook Pro, this laptop blurs the line between a high-end laptop and a professional machine. It comes with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 3,024 by 1,964 native resolution, 18 GB of RAM, 512 SSD, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and many other premium features that makes this the best MacBook Pro for your money.

This Dell Monitor Is on Sale and Comes With a $50 eGift Card

7 June 2024 at 18:30

Dell is having its Summer Sale with many deals on computers, monitors, laptops, and gaming computers going for up to $500 off. One particular monitor stands out from the rest for its price and bonus gift: the Dell 24 Monitor S2425HS is $107.99 (originally $139.99) after using promo code "MONITORS10" and it comes with a $50 Dell Promo eGift Card.

The Dell 24 Monitor S2425HS is a 24-inch LED In-Plane Switching (IPS) budget monitor with some nice specs and features. The monitor has two integrated 5W speakers in it, so there's no need to get speakers unless you want that extra oomph. IPS monitors are better than VA panels for quicker response times, making them better gaming monitors. This one comes with a 100Hz refresh rate and a 1920 by 1080 resolution, which is better than most monitors you will get at this price point but not nearly good enough for a serious gaming monitor (casual gaming will do fine).

You can adjust the height of the monitor, tilt it, swivel it, and turn it to the sides. The design looks clean and it has a modern, thin bezelโ€”again, all surprising for its price point.

What makes this deal go from good to impressive is the $50 Dell gift card. You'll receive it via email within 20 days, and it expires 90 days from being issued to you. You likely won't get it in time for this Summer Sale, but you can use it for anything on the Dell website. Also, shipping is free.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: The Merach Rowing Machine

7 June 2024 at 08:00

A rowing machine can be a great workout option for people looking to target multiple major muscle groups at once (legs, back, core, and arms) while getting their cardio going at the same time. If you're looking for something light, portable, and quiet, the Q1S Merach Rowing Machine is worth checking out. Right now, Merach's Magnetic Rowing Machine is on sale for $189.99 (originally $399.99) after applying the $50 on-page discount. This is the machine's lowest price ever, according to price-checking tools.

As I said in my review of the Merach Rowing Machine, it is practical, silent, and well-priced even before the major discount. I really like the ability to prop it up against the wall and keep it from taking up too much space in my dining room. The machine is also silent enough that I can get workouts done while watching TV and without annoying my fiancรฉe.

The Merach app is a great companion for the rowing machine, with different workouts, tracking metrics, optional classes, and other paid options to unlock. The screen itself is disappointing, but you can very easily use your phone's screen and prop it in front of you to get a much better idea of what you're doing.

Where this machine might fall short for some people is in its size. As a person who stands at 5 feet 7 inches tall, I feel that the handlebars sit very low to the ground and don't come out far enough at the start of the drive, giving me that cramped, small rowboat feel. To get any tension on my arms at the beginning of the stroke, I had to lean backโ€”which isn't good form. But if you're just trying to get a workout in, it likely won't bother you.

You Can Get a $100 Gift Card for Uber Eats or DoorDash for $80

6 June 2024 at 15:30

If you're already a regular customer of food-delivery services, you may be interested to know that Costco is currently selling $100 e-gift cards for Uber Eats and DoorDash for $79.99.

Both gift cards are delivered digitally via email and you're limited to one transaction per Costco membership for the DoorDash card and two for the Uber Eats card. So yes, you must be a Costco member to get these gift card deals (or use someone else's membership, we won't tell). Once you receive the electronic gift card, you can redeem it in the DoorDash or Uber Eats app or their respective websites.

Remember that food delivery apps like these have expanded their services a lot; you can make orders from grocery stores, pharmacies, and even big box stores in case you're feeling too drained to go get something yourself. Keep in mind that unless you have a paid subscription with these apps, you'll have to pay extra fees for the delivery. The good news is that there are many ways to get these memberships free (at least for a while), like free trials or credit card perks. You can also use coupons to offset those fees. Just remember to cancel your subscription in time before the automatic payments kick in.

Amazon Prime Members Can Get Two of These E-books Free in June

6 June 2024 at 15:00

You can get thousands of free e-books over the course of 2024 if you know whereโ€”and whenโ€”to look. All year long, Amazon is offering up free Kindle e-books to readers, with new opportunities popping up every month.

This year also marks the 10th anniversary of Stuff Your Kindle Day, the biggest free e-book event of the year, offering up over a thousand free e-booksโ€”but that's later this year. In June, Prime members can get two free Kindle e-books from Amazon's First Reads program, one of them being this month's short read.

What is Amazon's First Reads?

Amazon First Reads is a program aimed at Prime members that offers early access to new e-books across many genres, as curated by First Reads editors (one of your many Prime Member benefits). Prime members can choose to download one free e-book every month from a rotating listโ€”though some months that number is bumped up to twoโ€”and non-members get them for a discounted price. These e-books can be read on any compatible Kindle device or via the free Kindle app.

How to get your free Amazon Kindle e-books in June

Go to the First Reads landing page to see the full list of e-books available this month. Once you find a book that seems interesting, click the "Shop Now" button from the First Reads landing page. Make sure youโ€™re not being redirected to the Kindle mobile application, because you won't see the free book option there; instead, use your browser (or just "check out" your free book on your computer).

Make sure youโ€™re not clicking the โ€Pre-order for...โ€ button, as that will direct you to pay; instead, click the โ€œRead for Freeโ€ or the "Buy Now with 1-Click" button under the "First Reads" banner on the book's Amazon page (don't worry, you won't be charged). This will send the e-book directly to the Kindle linked to your Amazon account.

You can see what it should look like from the screenshot below.

Youโ€™ll know you did it right when you see a โ€œThanks, [your name]!โ€ order summary indicating the e-book is being auto-delivered to the Kindle Cloud Reader.

Free Amazon Kindle e-books available in June 2024

This month, you can choose one from ten Kindle e-books, plus you get the free "bonus short read," Falling Down (The Boy in the Iron Box Book 1) by Guillermo del Toro, the Academy Award-winning director of Pan's Labirynth and The Shape of Water.

Amazon notes the genre for each of the books above the title, offering a quick way to narrow down your options. If you hover over the "See Editor Notes" under the "Shop Now" button, you'll be able to read a short description from the First Reads editor who picked the book.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: The Apple Watch Series 9

6 June 2024 at 09:00

Like most tech products, the Apple Watch has a basic model (the SE), a mid-tier model (the Series 9), and a high-end version (the Ultra 2). But the Series 9 offers arguably the best bang for your buck, with many high-end features at a price that's closer to the price of the SE than the Ultra 2. Right now, the 41mm Apple Watch Series 9 is $299 for the GPS version (originally $399), currently matching its lowest price since its release, according to price-checking tools.

If you're not sure if the Series 9 or the Ultra 2 is best for you, you can read our full breakdown. Essentially, the Series 9 is a smaller watch with fewer features for outdoor enthusiasts than the Ultra 2. But if you want to save yourself a few hundred dollars and don't need a brighter screen or a more rugged design, the Series 9 is a great choice. PCMag gave the Series 9 an "outstanding" review for its powerful processor, the in-demand double-tap gesture for hands-free operation, access to Siri, and its bright display.

The GPS version only allows you to access your phone if you're connected to the same wifi network or are close enough for a Bluetooth connection. In other words, you won't be able to go on a run without your iPhone and expect to play music on your AirPods or take calls unless you want to throw another $100 for the GPS + Cellular version. If you want the cellular version, I've seen it drop to $329 before, so if you're patient you can snag one then (I'll be covering it once it happens).

Right now, only the 41mm sized screen is available for this deal, but the band size fits people with wrists from 130mm to 200mm.

5 June 2024 at 16:30

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: Google Pixel Watch 2

5 June 2024 at 15:00

If you're in the Apple ecosystem, there's no question an Apple Watch is the best smartwatch to pair with your iPhone. For Android users, the choice isn't so cut and dried. Your best candidates are the Galaxy Watch6 and the Pixel Watch 2, but only the latter is currently available at a record-low price from Amazon (according to price-tracking tools).

Right now, you can get the LTE Google Pixel Watch 2 for $319.99 on Amazon after an $80 discountโ€”the best I've seen since its release in 2023.

As the name implies, the Pixel Watch 2 is the second iteration in the Pixel line of smartwatches. The major improvements over its predecessor include much longer battery lifeโ€”up to 33 hours, according to PCMag's "excellent" review. Even with the always on display activated, the battery will still last a whole day.

The Pixel Watch 2 launched after Google acquired Fitbit, and the smartwatch includes fitness features like an accelerometer, GPS, a blood oxygen monitor, a heart rate monitor, a temperature sensor, a pedometer, and others. (While many Fitbit features are free, some require a subscription to Fitbit Premium, which costs $79.99/year.)

The LTE version allows you to leave your phone behind while still being able to take calls or play music from your phone. As our review notes, however, the watchband is one-size-fits-all, so keep that in mind if you're not "averaged-size."

Apple AirPods Are All on Sale Right Now

4 June 2024 at 18:00

It's not every day you have the chance to choose your favorite from all of the available AirPods and pick them up at a discount. But that day is today: All four models of Apple's AirPods earbuds and headphones are discounted on Amazon right now, and all are matching the lowest prices they've ever reached, or close to it.

If you're not sure which AirPods are the best fit for you, we have a breakdown of all three earbuds varities to help make the choice a little easier. (If you want a comparison between the earbud models and the AirPods Max, you can find one here.)

The 2nd Generation AirPods Pro are $189.99 (originally $249), $10 off the lowest they've been recently, according to price-checking tools. These are great earbuds if you have the cash for them. This newest model, which came out in September 2023, is the first to feature charging via USB-C. They have a few new features, like adaptive transparency, but the change in the charging port is the biggest difference. You can expect solid battery life, with Apple claiming up to 30 hours of listening time on a single charge.

The 3rd Generation Apple AirPods have dropped to $139.99 (originally $169.99), matching the lowest recent price. These earbuds came out in 2021, and you can read more about them in PCMag's "good" review.

The 2nd Generation AirPods are $89 (originally $129) after a 31% discount, $10 off their lowest recent price. These are the oldest of Apple's current AirPods lineup, and were released in 2019. They received an "average" review from PCMag, which faulted them for a lack of features. Still, they are a decent entry-level buy.

The AirPods Max are rarely discounted, but you can get them for as low as $499.99 (originally $549). They were released in 2020, but they are still among the best headphones you can buy if you're in the Apple ecosystem. Read more about them in PCMag's "excellent" review.

Woot Has Discounted Both Versions of the Nintendo Switch

4 June 2024 at 15:30

It's rare to find a new OLED Nintendo Switch being sold for less than its $349.99 retail price, at least from from a reputable retailer, but Woot is doing just that: Right now, you can pick up the console for around 10% offโ€”not a huge discount, but welcome nonetheless. It's $314.99 (originally $349.99) while supplies last, or until June 5, 2024, at 2:59 a.m. ET.

If you aren't picky about your screen size and resolution, Woot is also selling preowned non-OLED Switches in "Grade A Refurbished" condition for $239.99, a lower price than Amazon's own refurbished models. (Keep in mind that all refurbished products from Woot might come with signs of wear, but all have been serviced and are guaranteed to work properly.)

Woot only ships to the 48 contiguous U.S. states. If you have Amazon Prime, you get free shipping; otherwise, itโ€™ll cast $6.ย

Woot's deal on the OLED Nintendo Switch is better than GameStop's current $25 discount when you spend at least $250 (you also don't need to pick it up in person). No other major retailer has had a better deal for the OLED over the past few months, according to price-checking tools.

The OLED costs $50 more than the original version because of its improved 7-inch OLED screen, but not everyone demands a fancier screen. (Check out this guide to help you decide if itโ€™s worth paying for the OLED upgrade.) The other main difference is storage space: The OLED has 64GB of storage, twice that of the regular model. It also has an improved kickstand, and the docking station is sleeker-looking. But if you plan on playing the Switch docked most of the time, the OLED screen won't make a difference for you.

Keep in mind that there are already rumors swirling around about the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, but it won't be out until next yearโ€”and there are plenty of games worth playing on the Switch in the meantime.

Walmart's Version of 'Prime Day' Is Coming Soon

4 June 2024 at 13:00

Amazonโ€™s Prime Day is set to kick off sometime in July, but theyโ€™re not the only retailer with big plans. As is often the case, the big retailers try to have a sale of their own, usually before Amazon's sale, probably in hopes you will do your shopping with them instead. Walmart is the first of those big retailers to let their plans be known.

What is Walmart+ Week?

Walmart has its own "Prime Day" equivalent with a new name this year: The Walmart+ Week sale, which they announced in late May in a press release. Like Prime Day, you will need to be a Walmart+ member to participate in this sale. The membership is $98 a year (or $49 if you're a qualified government assistance recipient), which is basically what Amazon Prime costs. That said, you can sign up for a free 30-day Walmart+ trial.

Walmart+ Week starts on June 17 and runs until June 23. (Prime Day will likely be around the second week of July.)

What to expect for Walmart Deals Holiday Kickoff sale

Walmartโ€™s sale will include deals from many departments, likely including toys, electronics, appliances, furniture, and more. The deals wonโ€™t go live until June 23 and should be mostly online, but there will likely be in-store sales as well. If it is like their past sales, you can also expect new deals to drop consistently on Walmartโ€™s website throughout the sale.

Here are some of the deals Walmart published on their press release:

  • Get "double the discount" on fuel at Exxon & Mobil stations nationwide (that's 20 cents off every gallon).

  • Earn up to 20% back in Walmart Cash on flights, hotels, car rentals, and activities booked through Walmart+ Travel.

  • Get Express Delivery, which delivers your order in under two hours, without the usual $10 fee.

  • Experience three free months of Walmart+ InHome. This is a delivery service similar to Instacart where Walmart employees bring your orders ($35 order minimum) into your home and even into your fridge.

  • Get access to "new and unique items for members only" (no word on what, exactly, these are).

Walmart also mentioned a "mystery offer" to be revealed on June 20. I don't know what the offer will be, but if it's any good, I'll be covering it and letting you know.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: Beats Solo 4

4 June 2024 at 09:00

Yes, the Beats Solo 4 just came out just over a month ago, but they're already being marked down with significant discount. Currently, you can get the Beats Solo 4 for $149.95 (originally $199.95) after a 25% discount. This is the lowest price they've been since their release, according to price-checking tools. This is why it's my favorite Amazon deal of the day.

Beats by Dre, which is owned by Apple, did some upgrades to the 4th model of their popular Solo headphone seriesโ€”mainly, having the ability to talk to Siri without using your hands. But they also added personalized spatial audio to your ear shape, giving you "3D audio" that follows the movement of your iPhone (as long as that media supports spatial audio), as well as extending the battery life to an impressive 50 hours of run time.

The headphones are on-ear headphones (as opposed to over-ear headphones, which are bigger and cup around your ears), and they lack Active Noise Cancellation and an adjustable EQ option on their app. I like that they still give you the option to plug in a stereo 3.5-mm cable in case you don't want to be wireless. The sound is just as good as you'd expect from Beats headphones: a well-balanced sound with powerful bass and highs.

If you don't have an Apple device, you get less value for your money with these headphones because you can't use the Siri feature and they lack an Android-friendly codec. The flip side of that is Apple users get great value from these headphones, with AAC and SBC codecs, one-touch pairing with most Apple devices, automatic pairing with devices using iCloud across the Apple ecosystem, audio sharing, and simultaneous connection with certain Apple products (like your iPhone and Apple Watch) according to PCMag's "good" review.

Everything We Know (So Far) About Prime Day 2024

3 June 2024 at 16:30

Prepare your wallets and get ready to sign up for that free Amazon Prime trial membership: An Amazon press release has officially revealed that Prime Day 2024 will occur this July. (Not that it is much of a surpriseโ€”this will be the 10th annual Prime Day sale, after all.)

Amazon's biggest sale of the year (and arguably the biggest sale of any retailer) will soon be underway, and Lifehacker will be bringing you the best deals available while warning you of the ones you should stay away from.

What is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

Amazon Prime Day is a 48-hour sale, offering discounts on the Amazon website in virtually every category. It began in 2015 as a one-day event to celebrate Amazon's 20th anniversary, but it has grown exponentially since then, and now qualifies as a major shopping event, with other retailers spinning up their own sales to capitalize on the hype.

Of course, calling it "Prime Day" is a bit of a misnomer. In recent years, Amazon has also released "early Prime Day" deals that can last up to a week or two, and there's another "Prime Day"-like sale in the fall, officially called Prime Big Deal Days (though the deals usually aren't quite as impressive).

What are the dates for Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon hasn't officially announced the dates of Prime Day 2024, but the company did indicate it will be sometime in July. Its last few Prime Days have been on the second week of July, so it will likely fall between July 7 and 14, with "early" deals starting a few days or weeks earlier.

What you can expect on Amazon Prime Day

Amazon Prime Day always comes with surprise deals, but there are usually sales across a wide variety of products. To get an idea, you can see our 20 favorite deals from Prime Day 2023. While you might not find all of these same deals, you are very likely to find similar ones this summer. Amazon products like Fire TVs, tablets, smart speakers, and security cameras tend to hit new low prices, or match their lowest prices from previous sales.

Can you shop on Prime Day without being a Prime member?

You don't need to be a Prime Member to shop on Prime Day, but most of the best deals are for Prime Members only. If you aren't a member, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial, which is definitely enough to cover the whole event. However, not everyone will be eligible for these trials, so be sure to read the terms.

What is special about Prime Day?

As a shopping writer, I can tell you that most of the lowest prices I have seen, whether for a tablet, a TV, or an appliance, hit on Prime Day (at least according to price-checking tools). The breadth of products on sale is also much greater than at other points throughout the year. But that doesn't mean all of the deals are greatโ€”you'll still have to do your due diligence to make sure the deal you're looking at is legit.

Is Amazon Prime worth it?

While it probably doesn't make sense to become a Prime member only to score Prime Day discounts, there are a lot of other benefits to subscribing. In any case, if you're shopping for Prime Day, make sure you come out a winner and go in with a plan.

Are other companies also doing deals during Prime Day?

Yes. While Prime Day is solely an Amazon deal, it also gets competition from the likes of Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and other retailers. Walmart is the only one so far who has announced the dates for its "Prime Day" deals this summer (called Walmart Week), taking place from June 17 to June 23. The deals are for Walmart+ members, which, like Amazon Prime, is not free. However, you can get a free 30-day trial, otherwise it'll be $98 a year.

This post will be updated with all the latest information about Prime Day 2024 as it is released.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: The M2 MacBook Air

3 June 2024 at 14:30

Apple laptops stand the test of time, as Senior Tech Editor Jake Peterson explains in his piece about the M1 and M2 Apple chips still being of great value in 2024. The 13.6-inch 8GB RAM M2 MacBook Air, in particular, is currently down to its lowest price yet on Amazon according to price-checking tools: $829 (originally $999) after a $170 discount. This is my favorite Amazon deal for today.

The M2 MacBook Air dropped to $999 in April, shortly after the new M3 laptops were released. A deal was expected back then, and it was a great value for your money at that price. At $829, it's impressive enough to consider upgrading. If you have an M1, you can see the difference between the M1 and M2 and see if the upgrade is worth it for you. If you're considering the M2 or M3, you can see our full breakdown here.

If 256GB of SSD is not enough for you, the 512GB of SSD is also well discounted on Amazon at $1,029 (originally $1,199). And if you're looking for the bigger 15-inch screen, Best Buy's deal is your best bet at $1,199.99 (originally $1,499).

The M2 MacBook Air is arguably the best ultraportable Apple laptop, but it isn't the right choice for everyone. As Jake noted:

It sports the same design language, an M2 chip with an eight-core CPU and 10-core GPU with up to 24GB of memory, two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports (which does seem a bit low on a 15-inch machine), a MagSafe charging port, a 1080p webcam, and a display supporting a P3 color gamut with up to 500 nits of brightness. It even has the same 18-hour battery life claim, thanks to a larger battery driving the larger display.

The Air only comes with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, about as low of a memory and storage spec as youโ€™ll find in a 2023 computer. Again, that might be just fine for your use: M2 is powerful, after all, and its design means you can do a lot with a small amount of RAM. But someday, 8GB of RAM isnโ€™t going to cut it, and you wonโ€™t be able to upgrade the memory yourself. The same goes for storage: If you live your entire life in the cloud, 256GB might be plenty. But if you save any photos, videos, or other large files on your Mac, youโ€™re going to eventually need to spring for an external drive perpetually attached to your computer, or else deal with constant storage management until you sell the computer.

The JBL PartyBox Stage 320 Is the Only Speaker I Want for My Parties

31 May 2024 at 19:30

JBL's PartyBox Stage 320 is a powerful speaker with a well-balanced sound and punchy bass, with many features that make me want to host house parties just to have an excuse to use the speaker.

As the name implies, it's a speaker made for parties, meaning it's loud and fun but also has features made to enhance a party atmosphere. You can dabble in being a DJ with the Effect Lab, connect up to two microphones for karaoke, or even play over your music with an electric guitar. I was sent the PartyBox Stage 320 by JBL to review, and though it's not cheap ($599.95), after spending some time with it, I think it's worth every penny.

Pros and cons of the JBL PartyBox Stage 320

Pros

  • 240 Watts of output power or about 100 decibels of sound

  • A portable design that makes it easy to carry

  • Powerful bass

  • Adjustable EQ

  • Can have up to two microphones (or one microphone and one electric guitar)

  • Replaceable battery

  • Can play with just the power cord (without the battery)

  • Fun in-app features for parties

Cons

  • Only IPX4 for splashproof, not waterproof

  • Heavy at 36.38 lbs

  • No microphone

Specs

  • Battery life: Up to 18 hours (3 hours charge time)

  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.4 with Auracast support

  • Inputs: 2 ยผ-inch jacks, 3.5mm aux input and USB-A port

  • Drivers: Two 6.5-inch woofers and two 25 mm dome tweeters

  • Power output: 240 W total

  • Water resistance: IPX4 (splashproof)

  • Size: 26.3 inches by 15.2 inches by 13.2 inches

  • Weight: 36.3 pounds

First Impressions of the JBL PartyBox Stage 320

This is the first PartyBox I've reviewed, even though they've been around for some time. I must admit that I wasn't particularly excited about this speaker. The flashy pulse-beating lights looked gimmicky to me, and the speaker just seemed unnecessarily expensive. But as I learned more about the speaker, took it out to the soccer field, and messed with the app and features, I became obsessed with it.

I was able to comfortably roll the speaker through asphalt with its telescope handles and up a grassy hill to get 20 soccer players outdoors to enjoy some FIFA music. Like all JBL speakers, it comes with the JBL signature EQ, which sounds great out of the box. But you can customize the low, mid, and highs with five levers in the app.

Features of the JBL PartyBox Stage 320

Where the PartyBox Stage 320 shines for me is in its features, which you can control on the top of the speaker via an interactive control panel. The triangle-looking button to the right is the Auracast button, which allows you to pair two JBL TWS compatible speakers together or multiple JBL Aurocast speakers. The Bass Boost button on the right is a bass enhancer with a "deep" and a "punchy" option.

Then you have the three emoji-looking buttons in the center, and this is where the (admittedly cheesy) fun starts. They're the "party buttons" and each plays a different sound on the speaker that you can hear clearly over the music without interrupting it. You can change what each button does or says in the app, but for the most part, the first is the "voice," or a cheesy party voice that you would hear a DJ say over a mic to hype the party up. The thumbs-up is the "Vibe Tone" which has my personal favorite sound, the classic DJ "horn." And finally, the yellow disc is called "DJ sound" and is mostly different types of DJ scratches. I used many combinations of these sounds when hosting my Street FC games and had a blast messing with my players, depending on what was happening during the game.

The sliders at the top of the panel control the EQ of a microphone. You can change the bass and treble and add echo to the sound, making it fun to mimic certain lead singer sounds during karaoke. The speaker app lets you go even deeper into most of these features.

The JBL PartyBox app

The JBL PartyBox app is easy to use, although it can be slow to connect to the speaker sometimes. Here, I was able to control the lights in more detail and customize which lights I wanted to use. But where I think JBL really set itself apart from portable party speakers was with the "Effect Lab."

The Effect Lab is essentially a mini DJ mixer. I've never DJ-ed before, so it took some time to understand what each function does and how to use it properly, but I had a lot of fun learning on-the-go with trial and error. There are no directions in the app on how to use it, but you can easily learn what everything does with the internet and after 10 minutes of playing around with it, I got a good hang of it. Combine this with some microphones for karaoke, and I have myself a deadly combination to hype up, embarrass, or impress my friends at my next house party.

Details done right

The PartyBox Stage 320 does the little things right that make a huge difference to a party speaker. The battery is replaceable, which means the speaker's longevity is not dependent on the battery's lifespan. I love that you can use the speaker with just a power cord as well, so I can leave the speaker on for very long periods of time and still have my fully charged battery if I want to be completely portable. The speaker also gets a noticeable audio boost when plugged in. The battery itself lasts up to 18 hours at 50% volume, which is loud enough for an indoor house party. When I set the volume to 70% (which I don't recommend doing indoors), with the lights on and the Bass Boost on, the battery lasted about seven hours.

Another impressive detail is that JBL made it very difficult to create that ultra-whiny feedback sound when you have a microphone plugged into the speaker. I have to essentially rub the microphone on the speaker to hear some sort of feedback. JBL seems to be using technology to suppress the feedback sound, giving you instead a more space-ship-zooming-by sound rather than the high-pitch feedback sound we all hate. (When I turned the echo, treble, and boost sliders up on the mic settings, I was more likely to get feedback, though.)

The back panel also has an LED light that is useful when trying to plug things in at at night. As mentioned, you can connect up to two microphones to the speaker or one microphone and an electric guitar. There's also an AUX in if I want to practice my karaoke singing or DJ scratching without disturbing my dog. I don't have other speakers I can daisy-chain together, but the option is there if I want to connect the speaker with another one.

Closing thoughts

The JBL PartyBox Stage 320 exceeded my expectations as a party speaker. Although the speaker is on the heavy side at about 36 pounds, the handle and thick wheels make it easy to move around in different terrains. It is disappointing it isn't waterproof, with only an IPX4 rating, and that the speaker doesn't include a microphone.

Even though it has a powerful bass, the sound is well-balanced and doesn't overtake the vocals or treble. The interactive DJ features on the speaker and in the app take the speaker to another level of fun for parties and karaoke sessions. I loved having the option to have up to two microphones or an electric guitar plugged in, giving me a lot of possibilities on how to set up. Being able to change the battery and use the speaker with just the power cord also gives the speaker a great deal of longevity and dependence for long sessions.

I would recommend the JBL PartyBox Stage 320 to those who love hosting house parties or karaoke sessions. While the speaker is pricey at $599.95, I think it's worth the cost for someone looking for a great party speaker filled with fun features.

These Sonos Smart Speakers Are 25% Off Right Now

31 May 2024 at 18:30

Sonos's smart speakers aren't as ubiquitous as Apple, Google, or Amazon's voice-activated devices, but they've got it where it counts in terms of audio quality. And like Apple products, Sonos devices rarely go on sale, but right now, Amazon and Best Buy are offering discounts of up to 25% off two of the company's best bets, both of which are at record-low prices, according to price-checking tools.

The Sonos Move 2 is $113 off

The Sonos Move 2 is a portable speaker and a smart speaker in oneโ€”a rare comboโ€”and it's currently $336 (down from $449). As the name implies, it was made to be used on the go; it has a 24-hour battery life, is drop resistant, and has an IP56 rating, meaning it can handle heavy rain and splashes without missing a beat, but it will not survive if you fully submerge it.

As noted in PCMag's "excellent" review of the device, the second iteration of the Sonos Move does away with Google Assistant, but it still can be used with Alexa, as well as Sonos' own voice assistant. The Sonos app provides access to media from major streaming music services like Spotify, as well as podcast apps, and the Libby app (for audiobooks). If you have other Sonos speakers, they can be networked together to play the same media.

The Sonos Era 300 is more powerful but lacks portability

If you don't care about the portable aspects and plan to keep the speaker in the same place most of the time, you can opt for go the Sonos Era 300 for $359 (originally $449). It has better bass, plays Dolby Atmos tracks from Apple Music and Amazon Music, and retains most of the other features as the Sonos Move 2. (Learn more about the Sonos Era 300 from PCMag's "excellent" review.)

Whether you go with the portable Sonos Move 2 or the more powerful Sonos Era 300, you'll be getting a quality smart speaker at its best price since release.

The 5th Generation iPad Air Is $200 Off Right Now

17 June 2024 at 10:30

Apple released a new iPad Pro and iPad Air, among other products and announcements, during its May 7 "Let Loose" event. As is normally the case when newer versions are released, the older ones have gone down in price. Best Buy also happens to be having an Apple Sales Event right now, which includes the 5th generation 64GB iPad Air for $399.99 (originally $599) and the 256GB version for $549.99 (originally $749.99). Best Buy hit these prices earlier this month for just three days, but now they're back to their lowest prices for another round.

This iPad Air is the thinnestโ€”and still one of the bestโ€”tablets Apple has to offer right now. This wifi-enabled iPad Air, which PCMag said is "outstanding," was released in 2022. It comes with an M1 system-on-a-chip (SoC), a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, a 12MP front and back camera, as well as Touch ID through the tabletโ€™s power button. It's just a tenth of an inch thinner than the iPad Mini (and matching the 6th generation in thickness) but about twice as heavy as the Mini. Unlike previous iPad Airs, this one offers many of the same features as the 2021 iPad Pro, like the M1 processor and second-generation Apple Pencil support. The iPad Air does fall short compared to the Pro lineup when it comes to the camera, audio, and graphics, but considering it is almost half the price, it may be worth the tradeoff.

These other iPads are also discounted on Amazon right now:

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: PlayStation VR2

30 May 2024 at 14:00

The PlayStation VR2 was expensive when it launched in early 2023โ€”and today, it is still expensive. But you can save $100 from its $549.99 listing price from Amazon, Walmart, or Best Buy, bringing the current $449 price down to the lowest it has been since its release. The deal comes during Sony's Days of Play sale, where you can also find the PlayStation 5 widely available for $449.99, among other PlayStation deals.

The PlayStation VR2 is exactly what it sounds like: a VR headset for your PS5. It is the second version of the PlayStation VR with big upgrades that justify the $150 price increase, including an improved 2,000 by 2,040 resolution HDR OLED screen, a 110ยฐ field of view (that's 10ยฐ more than the VR1), pass-through view technology so you can see your play area (and not break your TV), and much-improved PSVR 2 Sense controllers with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that will make your games feel more immersive (the headset also vibrates). The setup is also much easier, with just a USBC cable needed to be plugged into the console. IGN gave the headset an "amazing" 9 out of 10 score on their review.

It's not perfect, though. One of the biggest disappointments is that there is no backward compatibility with the original PlayStation VR, meaning you'll have to buy the same games again to play them on the PlayStation VR2.

Sony has been slowly releasing more games to be compatible with the VR2 headset. Right now, there is a good selection of games available, with more on the way.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: PlayStation 5 Slim

29 May 2024 at 15:30

The PlayStation 5 Slim has been hard to come by since its release, spurring some shoppers to pay over-market prices from other sellers. But for now, there seems to be ample supply during PlayStation's ongoing Days of Play sale.

Currently, the PlayStation 5 Slim is on sale for $449 (originally $499.99) after a $50 discount from Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. The PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition is also available for $399 (originally $449.99).

As mentioned, consoles tend to sell out quickly, so keep an eye on stock if you plan to buy, and consider acting quickly. The PlayStation store is the only one offering the PlayStation 5 with Marvelโ€™s Spider-Man 2 Bundle for $449 at the moment, with Best Buy's supply already running dry. If you're a PlayStation Plus member and you buy the console or a PS VR2 headset through Sony, Sony will include 12 months of Netflix Premium as long as you make the purchase between May 29 and June 12. The offer applies to new and existing Netflix subscribers.

If you already have the older PS5 and are wondering about upgrading to the slim version, keep in mind that it offers more than just a sleeker design (about 30% slimmer, according to IGN's review). The PS5 Slim also has 1TB of internal storage space, which results in an additional 181GB of usable space when compared to the original PS5. This addresses two of the biggest cons of the original PS5: the bulkiness and lack of storage space compared to the Xbox Series X.

The PS5 Slim can be oriented both horizontally and vertically, but if you choose the latter, you'll need a vertical stand, which costs $29.99.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: Bose QuietComfort Headphones

29 May 2024 at 08:00

Bose is a recognized name in audio tech and has been making capable active noise canceling headphones since 2016, when the company launched the QuietComfort line of devices. Right now, you can pick up the 2023 model of Bose's QuietComfort headphones for $249, $100 off the original price of $349. This is the lowest price they've reached, according to price-checking tools, making them a good bet if you're looking to get a high performance pair of headphones without spending a fortune.

Bose headphones are often found at the top of any roundup of the best headphones on the market, and have been consistently praised for years. The Bose QuietComfort lineup in particular excels in comfort (hence the name) and ANC. If those are features you're after, these headphones are worth considering, especially at this price point.

Keep in mind that this is the lesser model in the current QuietComfort line. Bose released both the Bose QuietComfort and the Bose QuietComfort Ultra last year. The Ultras are more high-end and include extra functionality, but they retail for $100 more and aren't necessarily the best bet for every userโ€”if you don't care about Bluetooth 5.3 versus 5.1, immersion mode (which allows you to hear the audio as if it is coming from different directions), or other extraneous features, you can save yourself some money and go with the basic Bose QuietComfort.

These headphones can connect to multiple devices at once, so you can seamlessly transition from one device to the next without repairing. They also offer a transparency mode that lets you hear your surroundings while wearing them, a customizable EQ so you can listen to your music how you like it to sound, and an impressive 24 hours of battery life, according to PCMag's "excellent" review." Also worth noting: They have physical buttons rather than touch controls, which will be a plus or a minus, depending on your preferences.

You Can Get a Google Pixel 7 or 7 Pro for up to 56% Off Right Now

30 May 2024 at 16:30

With the release of the Google Pixel 8 lineup last fall, the Pixel 7 lineup understandably lost some of its luster. But these are still great phones and very appealing at the right priceโ€”and I would argue that Woot has found it.

Until June 1 (or while supplies last), you can get a new, unlocked Google Pixel 7 Pro for more than 50% off its original $899 price, with the 128GB model starting at $399.99. And if you'd rather save some more money over having a fancier camera, the 128GB Google Pixel 7 is $354.99 (originally $599.99) after a 41% discount. (Note that Woot only ships to the 48 contiguous U.S. states in the U.S. If you have Amazon Prime, you get free shipping; otherwise, itโ€™ll be $6.)

During Black Friday, the 256GB Pixel 7 Pro reached $699 on Best Buy and Amazon and later dropped to $599 around Christmas. Now you can get the 256GB version for $439.99, the lowest price I've seen (even cheaper than Amazon). The same goes for the 128GB and 512GB versions. I think 128GB will be enough space for most people, but doubling the storage for $40 is not a bad deal. When the Google Pixel 7 Pro came out in October of 2022, our friends at PCMag named it the best Android phone on the market and gave it an "excellent" rating.

When Google released both of these phones, the Pixel 7 had a strong leg to stand on, with a $300 difference that justified its place. Right now, the difference between both of these phones is $45. The Pixel Pro has a better telephoto camera, better Super Res Zoom, and a larger display with a slightly better refresh rate, as pointed out by Senior Tech Editor Jake Peterson in the head-to-head breakdown of these phones. But if you don't care about those things, spend that $45 on a very nice phone case.

In general, Pixel phones are impressive devices and my personal favorite smartphones. My Pixel 6a is still going strong, though at this price, I'd consider upgrading, were it giving me any problems at all. Alas, I'll have to restrain myself for a while longer: As Google continues to offer even older Pixels security fixes as well as quarterly feature updates (including the "circle to search" capability), my 6a will be well supported for years to comeโ€”and the Pixel 7 Pro should last you even longer.

My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: iPad 10th Generation

28 May 2024 at 12:30

The iPad Pro and iPad Air came out earlier this month, but the 10th Generation iPad is yet to have its predecessor announced, with only rumors about its release. Back in 2022, when it was released, the 10th Generation iPad was $449, with some limited-time deals dropping the price to $349 earlier this year. Right now, you can get the 64GB Wifi iPad for $299.99 after using the $29.01 on-page coupon, the lowest price it has been since its release (including Black Friday), according to price-checking tools.

The 10th-generation iPad is considered Appleโ€™s entry-level tablet and is one of the best tablets you can buy. It was considered the โ€œbest tablet for most peopleโ€ in 2022, according to PCMagโ€™s โ€œexcellentโ€ review. Back then it was not considered a "budget" tablet, given its higher base price when compared to previous models. However, at its current $299.99 price, it's much more affordable and trumps any tablet below the $300 price.

One of the best upgrades this iPad received is its buttonless design, which brings it in line with its higher-end Apple Pro tablet sibling. It measures 9.79 by 7.07 by 0.28 inches and includes the latest A14 Bionic chip, a 10.9-inch liquid retina display, 64GB of storage, a 12MP front and back camera, Touch ID, and a battery that Apple promises will last all day.

Recommended iPad accessories:

If you are considering this iPad, useful accessories include the Apple Magic Keyboard Folio, which will make your iPad work like a laptop, and the Apple Pencil USB-C, which will allow you to make the most of your iPad's touchscreen abilities.
