Arne Slot confirms he will replace JΓΌrgen Klopp as Liverpool manager

  • Liverpool expected to announce appointment next week

Feyenoord’s coach, Arne Slot, has confirmed for the first time that he will succeed JΓΌrgen Klopp as Liverpool’s manager.

An agreement for Slot to replace Klopp has been in place for three weeks but there has been no official announcement while Liverpool prepare to give their legendary manager a fitting send-off at Anfield on Sunday. However, at a press conference on Friday for Sunday’s match against Excelsior, Slot said: β€œI can confirm that I will become the trainer there next year.

There was a moment late in Deportivo de La CoruΓ±a’s win over Barcelona on Sunday in which they got a corner and Lucas PΓ©rez went to take it, gazing up at Riazor en route. When he got there, bouncing the ball before laying it down by the flag, he held out his arm for the linesman to inspect and leant in to whisper something. The linesman leant back, looked at the evidence presented and nodded. Then he smiled. It was true what Depor’s captain said: the hairs on his arm really were standing on end.

At a certain point you started to wonder if Massimiliano Allegri would strip all the way down to his underwear. The Juventus manager had already thrown off his jacket, and then a few moments later, his tie. Now he was furiously undoing the buttons of his shirt and bellowing toward the crowd.

Juventus were moments away from winning the Coppa Italia. They had led Atalanta from the fourth minute, when Dusan Vlahovic ran beyond Isak Hien and swept a right-footed finish past Marco Carnesecchi. The Serb put the ball in the net again in the 73rd, only for this goal to be disallowed for offside.

Bayern Munich seek agreement with Thomas Tuchel to stay as manager

  • Bayern finding it difficult to attract replacement

Bayern Munich are trying to reach an agreement with Thomas Tuchel that would keep him as their manager after encountering problems in their attempts to replace him.

For now, plans for the 50-year-old to leave the Allianz Arena this summer remain in place. It was announced in February that he would leave at the end of a campaign where they have missed out on the Bundesliga title for the first time since 2012. They have been unable to keep up with Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the league and were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid last week.
