Bleached corals off Brazil this week. The world is currently experiencing a global coral bleaching event, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The best weather conditions for viewing the colorful light display will be in much of the West while New England was “a question mark,” a forecaster said.
Officials warned of potential blackouts or interference with navigation and communication systems this weekend, as well as auroras as far south as Southern California or Texas.
Of the 160 whales stranded near the town of Dunsborough on Thursday morning, more than 100 were returned to the ocean. Twenty-nine others, however, died on the beach.
