Fringed by carefully-groomed strips of lawn on a small, triangular parcel of land, Chalmers United Church sits as a beacon of faith in the bustling area around Clergy, Barrie, and Earl streets. The distinctive rounded church tower overlooks the activity at Queen’s University, Kingston General Hospital and many nearby homes and businesses. It could happen at any time of year for Moose. A cough with a particular sound is the signal. To the unfamiliar ear, it’s a slight bark that would mean nothing… unless it’s my hubby. Within a couple of days, his chest hurts, and he has a low-grade fever that spikes now and again. Moose (his pseudonym) wraps his arms securely around his sides to survive a deep, painful cough that could bring tears to his eyes. A visit to Hotel Dieu emergency department is imperative. Read More
